Exceptional House for Rent in Teahupoo, Tahiti

Available for the first time, this three-bedroom two-bathroom house is ideally located a three-minute walk from the Teahupoo shore break and a one-minute walk to a crystal clear river pool. The quiet community of Teahupoo is unique in Tahiti both for its laid back surfing atmosphere and for its uncommonly safe, welcoming and traditional Polynesian community.

The artistic wooden house is 115 square meters (1,238 square feet) plus a huge 25 square meter (269 square foot) deck and a detached, air-conditioned office (or extra bedroom), also with a small deck, that over-looks a natural spring-fed pool full of lily pads. An outdoor "jungle shower" is nestled next to this detached room. The main house is an octagon with a hole in the middle, out of which you can see the mountains and the moon at night. A mangosteen tree grows in this small open garden in the center of the house.

All the rooms have teak floors except the bathrooms and kitchen which are tiled. The custom made windows and kitchen cabinetry are also made from hardwoods and the house is furnished with Bali style teak furniture. We designed the house to catch tropical breezes so it's often noticeable cooler than outside even without air-conditioning.

Over 18 types of fruit grow in the 3000 square meter (3/4 acre)garden including the usual suspects like mango, papaya, pineapple, passion fruit, banana and lime but also rare species to Polynesia such as giant South American pink pomelos, cinnamon and cocoa.

Hiking trails, kayaking, snorkeling, surfing and swimming are literally right outside the door. Five hundred meters from the main road, the house is quiet, far from any traffic and is perfect for children and active families.

Price is 160,000 CFP (about US$1700 depending on the exchange rate) for a minimum 1-year lease. Available in July.
